Food conglomerates are constantly revising their candy wrappers due to marketing and regulatory changes and discontinued products, as well as, amassing factory misprints and overruns. It’s an enormous recycling project. This eco-conscience coop has adapted an old Mayan crafting technique of folded paper to a new way of recycling waste. The repurposed candy wrappers are cut, folded, hand woven and sewn by artisans in Mexico. It can take up to 4000 individual wrappers and 4 days to complete the largest bag. Because of the coated nature of the wrappers, they are tear-free and water repellent. The woven strips are stitched from inside keeping the weave together and promise a long-lasting delight.
