Tibetans were driven out of their homeland and found refuge in Northern India, where they can practice their Buddhist faith and their crafts without persecution. Their sanctity for all life combined with their understanding of gems has lead them to develop composites and alternative materials to duplicate the look and feel of precious stones. They do not use materials such as coral or ivory that result in the harm to any animal or protected species. The hand-carved beads may look expensive, but are made of enhanced Tibetan turquoise, hand-cut glass, horn, and vegetable or henna –dyed bone. With your purchase, the Tibetan refugees can continue to live and work in harmony.
